Horizontally Flipped Andromeda Galaxy
2015
digital photograph

While many of Apple’s operating systems contain images of galaxies, the photograph of the Andromeda Galaxy is notable for the attention it received due to its digital manipulation. Allegedly, an entire galaxy was removed from the picture to increase the photograph’s visual appeal. As the name suggests, Horizontally Flipped Andromeda Galaxy presents a horizontally flipped version of the image available as part of the Mac OSX Lion operating system.

Horizontally Flipped Andromeda Galaxy has been presented twice. It was first shown as a desktop background on a computer (Where the Heart Is, Home Sweet Home) and was later available as a downloadable file on a website's homepage (Document V, Temporary Art Review).
